Seventh Drug Interdiction

Seventh Drug Interdiction (0.51 mins)

While conducting surveillance in the Western Indian Ocean on 1st February 2018, HMAS Warramunga’s Seahawk Romeo Helicopter detected a contact of interest. HMAS Warramunga closed the location of the suspicious vessel and further investigations led to the insertion of Warramunga’s boarding team. The boarding took place in international waters in the Western Indian Ocean. In the course of the Boarding Officer’s searches, it became evident that the vessel was without nationality and that the crew may have been involved in illegal activity, possibly smuggling narcotics. HMAS Warramunga’s boarding team was authorised to conduct non-destructive searches of the suspect vessel, and in the process located a quantity of narcotics. This is the seventh narcotics smuggling vessel interdicted by HMAS Warramunga after arriving in the Middle East Region in November 2017 for Operation MANITOU.
