Ballarat is deployed on Operation MANITOU, supporting international efforts to promote maritime security, stability and prosperity in the Middle East Region (MER). Operation MANITOU’s mission is to contribute to the Combined Maritime Forces, which is a 33 nation partnership focussed on defeating terrorism, preventing piracy, encouraging regional cooperation and promoting a safe maritime environment. Ballarat is on her second deployment to the MER and is the 67th rotation of a Royal Australian Navy vessel to the region since 1990. The Australian Navy frigate has seized over 12.9 tonnes of hashish, 1.4 tonnes of heroin and a small amount of methylamphetamines, with a combined worth of AUD$1.073 billion.
