Five nations on deck for ‘disaster’ on the Han

Five nations on deck for ‘disaster’ on the Han. A cruise ship and a tanker collide and burst into flames, diesel fuel and oil are rapidly spilling into the Han River, five people are thrown into the water, one of the vessels starts to sink and first responders from five nations rush to the scene..... including two Royal Australian Navy Nursing Officers. In 2017, a team of Australian Defence Force (ADF) medical specialists deployed to Vietnam for the final phase of Exercise Pacific Partnership 2017 - the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. For three weeks, the Medical and Nursing Officers from Australia, along with others from the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan, worked together alongside Vietnamese civilian and military medical personnel as part of the US-led mission to enhance regional coordination in areas such as medical readiness and preparedness for man-made and natural disasters, as well as to enhance regional security and stability. The Australia personnel also took part in a major training exercise in Da Nang Harbour, which simulated a ship collision, oil spill and casualty situation, and involved Vietnamese military and civilian response agencies and first responders from the participating Pacific Partnership nations. Australia has been involved in every iteration of Pacific Partnership since it originated more than twelve years ago following the multinational Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief response to the 2004 tsunami event in Banda Aceh.
