Secretary for Defence Mr Greg Moriarty visited HMAS Albatross on Thursday 11th July 2019, with the purpose of increasing his knowledge of Albatross, Fleet Air Arm (FAA) units and their capabilities. The Secretary toured the FAA Squadrons 723 and 808, the Helicopter Underwater Escape Training facility, the Aircraft Control Tower and engaged in Peoples Forum. Coinciding with the visit, the Secretary was able to take part in HMAS Albatross’ NADIOC activity featuring the traditional ‘Welcome to Country’, ochre blessing and smoking ceremony which was supported by the local indigenous ‘Doonooch” and RAN ‘Bungaree’ dancers who performed independently and together reflecting the 2019 theme ‘Let’s work together’.
